This set is my ode to SZA and Kendrick Lamar's song, Doves in the Wind. In preparation for my headlining set, I am trying to do sets where I have one overarching topic. This week was my vagina (just like the amazing song). Usually, I would talk about two or three subjects in an eight to nine minute set. I am trying to learn how to talk about one thing for longer and still remain funny. Recently, I have been trying to work on my cleaner material, so it was fun to take a break from that for a moment. This set went well and I was happy. I tried new stuff that worked that I will definitely include in my later sets. I think school will be the next over arching subject I do.
PS, yes I wrote my set on a bar napkin. Like a true professional.

At the end of last month, I did Once A Month Comedy show in Chattanooga at the Palace Theater. This show was awesome! This was my second time performing at the Palace Theater. It's a beautiful art venue and brought out a comedy audience both times I performed. I want to give a special thanks to Natasha Ferrier and Grace Holtz for having me. They were high energy, fun and kept the crowd hot all night. I will definitely come back to this show again even if it's just to watch! #OnceAMonthComedy :D
Here's a link to ticket to their next show on July 28th, 2018 at 8 pm at the Palace Theater (These tickets sell out!) : https://chattpalace.myshopify.com/products/once-a-month-comedy I'm the newest regular at Star Bar for the next 6 months along with the very funny Powell Mansfield and Kyle Gillis. I'm excited because I'll get to perform about 24 sets consecutively in front of the best audiences in Atlanta! I just finished week 5 of my residency. This was the most nervous I've been before a set all during my residency.
My approach coming into this long stretch of comedy was to do a joke purge. I want to perform almost every joke I've ever written for the first weeks then refine those jokes that didn't get the laugh I wanted in the next few weeks. I have been doing around 7 to 8 mins each Monday. To be honest I am coming the end of this joke purge and will have to start refining soon. I am now getting into my topical material. I love topical material so much, but unless an audience is emotionally invested in said topic it is hard for this material to stand the test of time. I was worried that I would be able to do my Superbowl jokes that I love to troll Atlanta audiences with because it was too topical, but they still landed. That lost was just that bad. Lol. On week 3, I performed concepts I have thought of during my first few months in comedy. It was interesting to see that those jokes still stood the test of time. These two sets stood out to me so far can't wait to share more. Star Bar is one of my favorite places to perform comedy at and I like to thank Rodney for the opportunity. I'll be giving updates on this residency periodically. For now, enjoy I picture of me and my sister, Lyn-Z's butt on the Star Bar stage. :D |
