The semifinals of the Charleston Comedy Competition went well! I came in third place and advanced to the finals. :) There was some steep competition so I was super nervous at the beginning. Once I got on stage however, the audience warmed me up. Theatre 99 has some of the best audience's in the South Carolina. A year ago this competition came at a time where I felt I was too new to the scene to perform. So it made me feel really special to not only participate in it, but to make it to the finals of it.
Can't wait to come back and perform. Wish I fan some pictures to share. I will definitely take some at the finals!

Today is a special day for me. It marks my first year performing stand up comedy! This past year has been so fun and exciting. The Charleston comedy community was so warm and welcoming to me. It is a great place to start honing your comedy craft. The first place I performed was Joe Pasta (now called Compass) in Downtown Charleston. This is one of the most prominent comedy open mics in the city. It is hosted by Stan Shelby (pictured above). He was always super supportive of my comedy and encouraged me to keep going. It was always a good time and even better show at Joe pasta. I recommend anyone new to Charleston and interested in comedy to attend this open mic. It is great way to meet everyone in the scene. I now live in Atlanta. I feel like Atlanta has one of the best scenes in the United States right now and I love learning about the venues here. I will continue to post about the open mics here as I perform at each. This is a little embarrassing. But here is a short video of my first performance at Joe Pasta (now Compass): This week and last, I visited the open mic comedy mic at Lumiere lounge. This is a great open mic in a beautiful room. They have guest host every week. Last week, the host did not do much time in between and ran the mic very smoothly. It is one of the few mics that give you 6-7 mins. This is one of the mics I'm using to prepare for the competition. It's about 40 mins outside the perimeter but it's worth it! :)
This past weekend was the third and final preliminary round of the Charleston Comedy competition. This marks my first comedy competition. It was great being back in the Holy City and seeing my friends. It also cool to see how people's material changes in a competition setting. It was interesting to actually put a value on my jokes. Theatre 99 has one of the best comedy audience's in South Carolina. It was very well ran show as well. Special thanks to everyone who voted for me! My round of the semifinals will be November 19th. I can't wait! :D The Wondermic at the WonderRoot is a great open mic. It went away for a while, but it's back! And I'm glad. This mic is like a secret meeting of comedians coming together to practice how they're gonna crush their upcoming shows (in a basement of course). It is a pure work out room so bring new material. Hosted by Clark Franzman who will literally sits behind the crowd and calls out when he hears comedians re-telling jokes. He also threatens to throw things at you. It's great. Alot of rooms would like you to kill using material you know works. I think sometimes this makes comedians forget to try out new things. Any scene can benefit from tough approach. Wonder Mic is every Wednesday. Sign up at 9:30, show at 10:00. 30, 3 min spots.
